12 Things to Do with Coca Cola

Coca Cola (the real one) is not only great to drink, it also has many uses around the home.

This list of uses was tested on ordinary, original Coca Cola, not the diet kind, or any of the variations there are available.

1. Cleaned a burned saucepan by pouring Coke into it and boiling. This takes out all the staining.
2. It’s easy to make a modern photograph look like an old sepia one. Just lightly brush the photograph with Coca Cola and dry quickly. Don’t wet it too much or it will buckle. Photocopied black and white pictures make great looking “antique” prints, if you treat them in the same way. Maps photocopied and treated this way, look fantastic in antique style frames.
3. If you dye your hair and the result is too intense, flat Coca Cola will help to lighten it.
4. Give old coins a soak in Coke. This gives a brilliant shine for collections and decorative items.
5. Pour Coca Cola into your kettle and leave all day. This will remove limescale and leaves it clean inside.
6. A can of Coke poured into the toilet will clean it. The acid in the drink gets to work right away.
7. Make an excellent barbecue sauce by mixing Coke and Ketchup , half and half. Coat chicken, meat, etc with this before cooking. It’s mouthwatering.
8. Flat Coke makes a good hair conditioner. Pour it over your hair, rinse and dry.
9. Put Coke into flat wide dishes in the garden and it will help to rid your plants of slugs. They are attracted by the sweet smell and once they fall in, they can’t get out.
10. Rusty bolts can be loosened by soaking a rag in Coca Cola, and wrapping it around the bolt. Leave for a few hours and it will be easier to move.
11. Clean your jewelery in a glass of Coke. Brush with a toothbrush and rinse well. (Not recommended for valuable items, or those with gem stones in them.)
12. Flat Coca Cola helps to settle upset stomachs. Don’t use fresh, fizzy Coke as this could irritate the condition. (Take the fizz out by adding a little sugar, if you need to.)

Not exactly good for you. Almost all the procedures mentioned above are strong cleansing procedures that eat away at dirt, grime, grease, the lining of your stomach, your intestines etc. Yeah, great to drink and kill slugs, Yummie!

  2. Sandra says:

Cool stuff. I once read you can clean copper with coke and tried it. Worked as charm.
    Great article.

    =)
    Sandra

p.s. If Coke can do that imagine only what it does to your stomac :p

  3. nosactivated says:

Coca Cola, I prefer the real one. The one that was originally produced that had actual Cocaine in it. This is where the name Coca Cola came from. But thanks to our government, it is no longer in effect.

  4. juli says:

My sister had a GI tube that got clogged all the time, instead of flushing with just warm water, we used diet coke…..unclogged her in a second…use it to unclog my kitchen sink too.

  5. Charlie says:

Mythbusters did some of these i think. Im not sure if they were disproved or not though. I do know its also great for getting rust off chrome if you use tin foil as a cloth to scrub with

  6. T. Vlahon says:

Coca Cola or any kind of “Cola” product works wonders to remove corrosion from a car battery terminal soak a rag it in and place over terminal or remove connectors from battery and soak in a cup for a half hour or more if needed

“This list of uses was tested on ordinary, original Coca Cola, not the diet kind, or any of the variations there are available.”

Judging by the sensational claims made by the article, this list of uses was not tested whatsoever. In particular, it was not tested against ordinary water, which will have much of the same effects.

  8. Sarah says:

Actually, don’t soak your coins in Coke. The acid can eventually wear away the writing on the coins and leave them blank. It can ruin your entire collection this way. Best to use a cleaner made especially for coins.

You’re welcome to use it on every day money but not coins that you intend to keep forever.

  9. Vic says:

They forgot to mention cleaning the buildup off of your automobile’s battery terminals.

  10. Matt says:

That whole thing some people say about Coke being a good contraceptive is a myth. Snopes busted it, and I was glad to see that you didn’t have that on your list.

  11. knsqueakers says:

Oh wow. I only knew about the toilet one. haha. Awesome!

  12. bran says:

pour a can on your windshield and it’ll clean off gook and bugs

  13. William says:

Well…#1, #4, #5, #6, #10 and #11 have all been proven untrue or barely more effective than water. The “acid” content in cola is very mild. There is 4x more acid in orange juice than cola. It’s a cute post, but I don’t really favor spreading false information. Maybe I’m just a spoilsport…

  14. Macu Naima says:

In Brazil the police used to glue parking tickets notices on your wind screen right in the driver’s field of vision.

Coca Cola was the only thing that broke down the glue facilitating the removal of the notice.

  15. Rev.St.Huck says:

Don’t do the toilet thing. It will work but it also strips away the porcelain. Takes off the top layer and leaves it rocky and ragged looking.

  16. Bill says:

‘But thanks to our government, it is no longer in effect.’ Not so! It was thanks to a chaste and godly citizenry that once lived in our country. They would not indulge or put up with such behavior.

  17. kristofer says:

Yeah I love coca-cola and have used it for a few of these uses… but I also drink quite a bit of it, usually about 8-10 per day.. my wife says I survive on Coke and Cigarettes..

  18. #2, you’re obviously not aware that your stomach contains Hydrochloric acid that’s much stronger than the phosphoric acid found in coke.

#15, do some research yourself before claiming this list is untrue. Go stick a dirty, rusty, copper penny in a glass of coke and let it sit for a few hours. Do the same with a rusty bolt. I do this experiment with my inorganic chemistry class so we can discuss the reaction mechanisms, but from first-hand experience I know this works. In fact, it works so well you definitely DON’T want to let coke contact anything valuable for long periods of time, as #9 and #17 pointed out.

  19. Bruce A says:

Good grief. The only true thing on this list is the bit about BBQ sauce. I’m amazed you didn’t have the BS about cops using it to clean blood off the pavement.

  20. PETER says:

DONT PUT IT IN YOUR HAIR IT ONLY MAKES YOUR HAIR STICKY!!!!

  21. One item that I never heard in the USA but is frequently mentioned in official first aid manuals and lectures in my country of origin:

Original Coke (or Pepsi or ,…) is preferred treatment for the victims of heat stroke. Thinking behind it is that it is usually readily available, and in one item it delivers many needed substances:

    -Liquid for hydration
    -Sugar for energy boost
    -CO2 that stimulates deep breathing
    -Caffeine that raises alertness

All good for dehydrated exhausted person with shallow breathing and on the edge of consciousness.

  22. subcorpus says:

if coke is this good in cleaning stuff …
why cant it clean my inside i wonder …
    hehe …
yeah … we had to watch an experiment once … they put a teeth in coke and it kinda became soft and yellow …
    hmmm …

  26. Mark says:

#27 If you look at the ingredients in over the counter nausea treatment (Emetrol or similar), you will see that it is basically Sugar Syrup and Phosphoric Acid. Which is all flat coke really is.

  27. James says:

All i’m seeing in these comments is healthfags crying about how bad coke is for you. Shut the fuck up about it, don’t drink it yourself, and stop your ranting about how sugar, aspartame, sunlight, air, and watching too much TV will all give me cancer or make me fat. And stop talking about Obama and your new Apple PC, because all you fags are the same.

I happen to drink excessive amounts of coke, don’t have any kidney stones, have extremely under-average bodyfat percentage, and I have a PC that works fine, hasn’t had a virus or given me any trouble in 3 years. And I don’t use firefox or give a fuck about blu-ray.

God I hate diggers i don’t even know why i go to it, or any sites it refers me to.

  28. When sick: flat coke just makes me throw up. Gotta have the fizz.

  29. onix says:

Well, we have acids in our stomach anyways, the fact that Cola drinks also have some doesn’t mean it’s distinctively bad for you or anything…

  30. orvil says:

coke only makes your hair sticky if you don’t rinse it out….

Don’t be a dweeb…. you don’t pour it on your hair and leave it there….

Coca-Cola is also frequently used in Surrey to clean crime scenes of organic liquids, (i.e. blood on street pavement).

I was surprised at first, but it make sense! Great article, I’ll try some for fun!

  32. Chase says:

Great idea for curing an upset stomach, just add more sugar to coke to flatten it….does this come with diabetes too?

  33. Rick Cain says:

Seems like the one thing you should NOT do with Coca-Cola is drink it!

  34. Marcus says:

Would some of you think for a second before saying the same cliche of, “jes better not drink the stuff haha im so original”…im not saying coke is good for you but on the same unrelated note water causes metals to rust, better not drink that we may turn into lepers….just because it can clean pots and pans because of its weakly acid properties, it does NOT mean it is going to burn a hole through your stomach and leave you sterile. … please put opinions into context, animals and utensils are not one in the same.

  35. Stefanie says:

Very handy. It definitely makes me want to stop drinking it, though.

    AWESOME LIST!
Not only will I link it on my soda blog, but I gotta give it props at http://www.Squidoo.com/CokeVsPepsi! You don’t see anyone making lists of 12 great uses for Dr. Pepper!

  49. Paul King says:

Something tells me I am sharing my thoughts with Americans, so I will careful not to use long multisyllabic words (oops, too late). Coca Cola certainly cleans copper coins and dissolves baby teeth when suspended in the product undiluted for 24 hours or so. I know this not because I read it, but because I done it [sic]. The mild acidic properties of Coke do this, but there is probably a higher level of acidity in your stomach, so I wouldn’t go throwing all your Coke down the sink, unless you want to unclog it, that is. I also lived in London and can tell you that whenever my shower heads clogged up, a night in Coke certainly got rid of most of the limescale :-)
