Most Painful Animal Bite

‘Becoming a man’ in the Setere-Mawe society means intentionally letting yourself get stung by these ants. Not just by one but by hundreds of them at once. And not just on one occasion. There, you are not a man until you have done this ritual twenty times.

Twenty times wearing a pair of gloves each laced with hundreds of live bullet ants, stingers pointing inward, for ten minutes at each go. At first it seems like a horrible practice almost on the level of honor killings, but the boys themselves really seem to have a positive outlook on it. And in America, kids cry when daddy gets them the wrong color car for their sixteenth birthday.

The Most Painful Animal Bite on Earth

The Setere-Mawe people of Brazil have found something really bad.

Meet the bullet ant. So named because those unfortunate enough to have been stung by one compare it to a gunshot wound – very unfortunate people; apparently, they have also all been shot. It reportedly has the most painful sting of any insect on Earth.

I was watching a video about these ants.

    Shits painfull.

  2. cpt. Obvious says:

So title says Animal yet last sentence says Insect with picture of ants… I think someone is retarded.

btw imo a tiger bite to the grundle region would probably hurt way more…

  3. Dicktard says:

Hey cpt. Obvious…an insect is an animal …..you fail at biology.

  4. Really? says:

Do you think ants belong in the….insect kingdom? Insects are animals, Captain Obvious. Yeesh. You’re a bit quick to pull out the retard card there.

  5. captain obvious sucks says:

    ants are animals you idiot….

  6. Nick says:

Insects ARE animals, you sack of nonsense!

  7. Brandon says:

    Insects ARE animals.

    Yes, someone is retarded.

  8. Jay says:

I met one of these when I was in costa rica while in college….very very large ants. They kind of scream at you too when they drop from the trees. Thankfully I was not bitten by one, tho I did step on some fire ants which were eating a dead land crab. That was painful enough, I couldn’t imagine a bullet ant.

  9. Josh says:

how many times are people gonna say “insects are animals too dipshit” i think we get it – once all of you retards get your moment to feel “smart” and say that one last time, get a life and leave this site

  10. paul says:

    insects are animals. tee-hee!

  11. ringo says:

    insects are animals. yay!

  12. Ricky says:

It’s not so much the argument about whether an ant is an animal I’m wondering about. My main concern is why the most painful bite is apparently not a bite at all, but a sting….

  13. wuh? says:

hmmm, so what you’re saying is that insects are also actually ani……….

  14. Really? says:

There was a delay due to moderators…Oh, and….insects are animals, too…dipshit.

  15. Thomas says:

@all you dumbasses who pointed out that insects are animals:

cpt obvious didn’t say that insects aren’t animals. he said that the headline said most painful animal bite, while the body said most painful insect bite. Meaning the headline is wrong, because in the animal kingdom, there are probably worse bites (large predatory cats and sharks come to mind).

  16. Eric says:

Insects are animals. There. I said it. Kingdom is “animals.” Phylum is “arthropods.” Class is “insects.” And so on, through Order, Family, Genus and Species.

I would submit that having a large shark (also an animal) bite off your head would be “worse”, though I’m sure it would be less painful.

  17. jesse says:

I am pretty sure a STONE FISH is the worst animal bite/sting a human can receive. And I included sting because it is not the bullet ant’s bite, but rather its sting, that causes such pain. I’ve already seen the effects of mutliple bullet ant stings on a single human on the Discovery Channel television show “Venom Hunter” here in the USA, but I have yet to see only a single sting from a “stone fish” on any such show or even a wild film capture. You have yet to impress me because the index of pain for a bullet ant is not nearly as impressive as that of a STONE FISH.

  18. Papachabre says:

More painful bite: an alligator latches on to your arm and then initiates a death roll, tearing skin from flesh, flesh from bone and bone from, uh, other bone. I think that would hurt more than a gunshot wound.

  19. Darren says:

I think you need to reconsider Papachabre, after only seconds of an attack from an alligator or shark or whatever your nerve endings will be destroyed / torn to shreds, and you would feel nothing. I have never had anything that severe happen to me but i have had some nasty gashes and they are rather painless. I believe gunshots are painful because no nerve endings are destroyed / torn to shreds.

  20. joshi*toshi says:

i think there are also rituals where they let ants of this voracity bite you all over and procede to rub chilli all over the wounds…
